1. ANGELO TAGLIACOZZO MEMORIAL GEOLOGICAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Angelo Tagliacozzo Memorial award was established 26 years ago by the Northeast division of the AIPG association. The award is available to students who are attending school in CT or 7 other Northeastern states, and who are majoring in geological science as a senior or a junior in an undergraduate program. The AIPG will review applications, interview candidates, and award no more than 2 students from each qualifying college scholarships based on merit and need.

2. CARTERCARES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The CarterCares Scholarship is a competitive scholarship that is offered by Carter Mario Injury Lawyers in an effort to stop bullying. Each year, 10 winners will receive $2000 to cover educational costs like tuition and the cost of supplies, based on projects that applicants submit. The project topic will revolve around encouraging students to stand up to bullying. To select the winners, the committee will consider creativity, research, appeal, academic merit, career goals, and hobbies. All recipients must live in the state of CT.

3. CANDICE'S SICKLE CELL DISEASE SCHOLARSHIP

The Candice Sickle Cell Disease Scholarship is available to students planning to attend college in the Tri-State area of NY, NJ, and CT. The primary goal of the fund is to raise awareness surrounding sickle cell disease as well as alleviate the financial pressures that come with attending college. To qualify for one of three $1500 awards, applicants must have been diagnosed with sickle cell disease and submit an essay describing how the disease has affected their life as a student. Awards will be divided into two disbursements throughout the year to 3 different winners.

4. CONNECTICUT TOURISM INDUSTRY SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS

Deadline: April 11

The Department of Economic & Community Development Offices of Culture and Tourism offers scholarship opportunities to two residents living in Connecticut who are pursuing a degree in a the field of tourism or hospitality. The Tourism Industry Scholarship is awarded to students who show that they will become tourism leaders within the state. Two separate $1000 scholarship awards are available to students who are enrolled in programs at accredited CT colleges. The scholarship committee for both the Richard B. Combs Hospitality Scholarship Grant and the Walter Schoenknecht Tourism & Travel Scholarship Grant will be awarded to students based on merit.

5. CSPJ FOUNDATION BOB EDDY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM TO FOSTER JOURNALISM CAREERS

The Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists Foundation has been sponsoring the Bob Eddy Scholarship Program for years. This program is available to students who are residents of Connecticut, or who are students within Connecticut attending a 4-year college and who are pursuing a degree in journalism. All applicants must demonstrate a financial need, submit transcripts to show academic achievement, and currently be a college junior or senior in fall of the year that they are applying. All applicants must submit samples of their work along with a focused essay about future career goals. Awards of $2500, $1500, $1000, and $500 are given out on an annual basis to the best candidates.

6. DAY OF PRIDE SCHOLARSHIP

Deadline: December 1

The Day of Pride Scholarship is sponsored by the University of Connecticut. This is a renewable scholarship award that is granted to an average of 15 students annually. In order to qualify for the scholarship, students must be from a disadvantaged background and be able to prove academic ability. The winners of this $20,000 needs-based award will be chosen based on commitment to diversity, leadership, community, and need, and a separate application must be submitted to be considered.

7. DIANA DONALD SCHOLARSHIP

In an effort to honor Diana Donald, a nationally recognized planner, the CT Chapter of the American Planning Association sponsors the Diana Donald Scholarship for students in a planning-related field. Donald was the first woman in the association to hold the Vice President position, and set a precedent for all women in the field. To qualify for this competitive award of $2500, students must be a resident of CT or enrolled in school at CT. Students must also show advanced academic skills, pursue a degree in planning, and show a financial need.

8. DONALD & RUTH AGNES KAPLAN MEMORIAL FUND

The Donald and Ruth Agnes Kaplan Memorial Fund scholarship is sponsored by the Connecticut Community Foundation. The award is available to female students who live in Watertown, Waterbury, Naugatuck, Woodbury, and Prospect, and who are pursuing a 4-year degree in a health field. Both high school seniors and adult freshmen students can apply as long as they have a GPA of a B- or higher. Students who are awarded the scholarship will receive 1 to 4 years of support from the foundation, and will receive $1000 to $2000 per year for educational expenses.

9. DR. LORRAINE G. SPRANZO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Dr. Lorraine G. Spranzo Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, and is available to residents of Connecticut who are registered nurses or pursuing a graduate level nursing from an accredited school in CT. 10. ELIZABETH DOYLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Elizabeth Doyle Memorial Scholarship was established in 1985, and is currently sponsored by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. Eva Doyle established the award in the memory of her daughter, and is available to college students in New Haven who are studying to become teachers. This competitive award is granted to between 3 and 4 students per year in amounts ranging between $500 and $2000.

The Environmental Professionals' Organization of CT sponsors the the EPOC Environmental Scholarship Fund to students who are pursuing a degree in the environmental industry. 12. JOHN STARKS FOUNDATION "3 POINT SCHOLARSHIP"

The John Starks Foundation 3 Point Scholarship was established in 1994 to provide financial assistance to students within the Tri-State area who are pursuing a college degree and demonstrate excellence. In order to qualify, students must be high school seniors on the way to college, show academic achievement, and participate in community service. 13. JUNIOR COLLEGE TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP

There are a variety of different Junior College Transfer agreements that students at Capital Community College can use to pay for the cost of attending qualified universities. The transfer process can be a very daunting one, and these scholarships are designed to help community college students who are making the transition. 14. LIVE OUT LOUD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Live Out Loud Scholarship is an award that is geared to help lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender students within the Tri-State area cover educational costs. To qualify for the award, students must attend an accredited school and be a resident of CT, NJ or NY. Student may be upcoming high school graduates or students who waited 1 year to attend college after high school. Four students will receive awards of $2500 to cover educational expenses. The winners will be selected based on financial need, community involvement, leadership ability, need, goals, and the interview.

15. MALCOM BALDRIGE SCHOLARSHIP

Deadline: March 15

The Malcom Baldrige Scholarship is sponsored by the Connecticut Community Foundation and is available to college freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior students who are pursuing a degree in international business, manufacturing, finance, economics, or trade. While this is a competitive scholarship, it is only available to students in the state of CT. Two awards in the amount of $2000 to $4000 will be granted to students who are selected by the foundation's committee. The applicants must demonstrate financial need and live in CT where they will be attending an accredited school.

16. MILTON FISHER SCHOLARSHIP FOR INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY

The Milton Fisher Scholarship for Innovation and Creativity is a 4-year scholarship that is awarded to students who are innovative and "think outside of the box." Unlike the traditional scholarship that is focused on academic achievement, this award is for students who are problem-solvers and can demonstrate this. Eligibility requirements for this unique $20,000 award must be fulfilled. To be considered, you must be a HS junior, HS senior, or an undergraduate student living or attending school in CT or NY. While financial need is not used to determine winners, the need will determine whether the winner receives $1000 or $5000 per year.

17. NEW ENGLAND EMPLOYEE BENEFITS COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP

The NEEBC has established a scholarship to advance the knowledge of individuals who would like to pursue a career in employee benefits and who live in the New England area or are attending a school that is accredited in New England. 18. NUTMEG SCHOLARSHIP

The Nutmeg Scholarship is a college specific renewable award that is available to students who are enrolled at the University of Connecticut. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are all welcomed to apply for the award, and 14 awards in the amount of $20,000 are granted to winners on an annual basis. To be considered for the award, the applicant must be an exceptional student and maintain stellar grades throughout their college career. Students must apply for financial aide to be considered by the Office of Student Financial Aid for the award.

19. RACHEL BUTTERWORTH DIETZ SCHOLARSHIP

The Rachel Butterworth Dietz Scholarship is offered by the Boston Flower Exchange to students in New England who plan on pursuing a degree in horticulture or floriculture, or to students who are currently enrolled in one of these fields. The $5000 award is only available to residents in the New England region, making it far less competitive than the average opportunity that is not college specific. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in a degree program full time.

20. RUTH WHITNEY SCHOLARSHIP FROM GLAMOUR MAGAZINE

Glamour Magazine is offering the Ruth Whitney Scholarship to students who are pursuing a career in journalism or publishing, and who have shown talent in writing or design. To be considered for one of the 15 $10,000 merit-based scholarship, students must live in NY, NJ, CT, or PA, and demonstrate academic achievement by earning a GPA of 3.2 or higher. Applicants must also major in communications or a related field like broadcasting, film, or English. Winners will be selected by the NY Women in Communications Committee on the basis of academic performance, leadership, talent, and participation in the community or school.

21. SHAW WORTH SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The Shaw-Worth Scholarship is sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States. It is available to high school seniors in the New England area who, over a long period of time, have shown a commitment to helping and protecting animals. 22. STAMPS SCHOLARS AWARD

The Stamps Scholarship Award is a full tuition award that is granted to the winning student who attends the University of Connecticut. The college specific scholarship is a merit award that is available to students who can demonstrate academic excellence and also show a financial need. Those who win will receive awards that pay for the entire cost of tuition and up to $12,000 per year for enrichment throughout the student's college career as long as the student qualifies for renewal.

23. SUZANNE BECKIUS SCHOLARSHIP

The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain sponsors and awards the Suzanne Beckius Scholarship to graduating seniors and college undergraduate students who attend school full-time and have participated in theater in the area. To be eligible for the college scholarship, students must be positive, unselfish, and have experience with the Southington Youth Summer Theater. 24. TIMOTHY BIGELOW AND PALMER W BIGELOW JR SCHOLARSHIPS

The Timothy Bigelow and Palmer Bigelow, Jr. Scholarships were created in 1988 by the Bigelow family in an effort to honor the family and assist students in New England to pursue an education in horticulture. Awards range in value between $1000 and $3500, and is available to undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled full-time at a 2-year or 4-year school. 25. WATERBURY WOMEN'S CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

The Waterbury Women's Club Scholarship is available to incoming freshmen reentry students in CT who are pursuing a degree in nursing. This nonrenewable scholarship awards each winner $1000 to cover the cost of post-secondary educational expenses. TO be eligible, students must maintain a C+ average. Winners will be selected by the Connecticut Community Foundation based on financial need and academic achievement.
