- National Principals Conference
- 2017 Conference on Educational Leadership
- School Administrators Association of New York State
- New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association
As a school principal, you should attend at least one of the top conferences for school principals that take place each year. These conferences let you mingle with other principals working in the same type of school as you and pick up tips on dealing with problem students, helicopter parents and school boards. Many conferences include activities that will improve the skills you already have too.
International Confederation of Principals
The International Confederation of Principals is a nonprofit organization devoted to helping school principals at all levels who work in cities around the world. It has a new conference scheduled for September 22-25, 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa with the theme Brain Waves of Change. This conference provides principals with the chance to talk about the issues they have in schools and to get feedback from others in the profession. The 2017 event will also look closely at neuroscience topics.
National Principals Conference
One of the main conferences that you shouldn’t miss this year is the National Principals Conference, which is a joint effort of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Scheduled for July 9-11, 2017 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, it is the first conference ever that will include information and events for those working in preschools, elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. The schedule of events for this conference includes a welcome reception, breakfast events, exhibition hall and book signings.
2017 Conference on Educational Leadership
A key skill that you need when working as a principal is the ability to lead others. The 2017 Conference on Educational Leadership can teach you that skill and help you become a strong and effective leader. Hosted by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), it is open to both teachers and administrators. Teachers will learn the fundamentals necessary for taking control of a classroom and how to command the attention of their students. Programs for principals and superintendents are also available. This conference takes place October 27-29, 2017 in Orlando, Florida.
School Administrators Association of New York State
The School Administrators Association of New York State, better known as SAANYS, hosts an annual conference for principals and other administrators. Its 2017 conference will take place in Cooperstown October 22-23, 2017. Guests speakers scheduled to appear include those working in government positions and school district superintendents. There are multiple small camps that act as activities designed to help you become a better principal and to help you learn how to relate better to your students. It also includes several workshops. Once you complete all the activities, you can grab a box lunch and leave early in the day on Monday.
New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association
Located in New Jersey, the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association (NJPSA) hosts one of the top conferences for school principals. The 2017 fall conference uses the empower theme and hopes to empower administrators to take back their schools. Several authors will be on hand to give speeches and sign copies of their books, but it will include a number of special events and activities too. You must be a member to attend, but you can become a member and register for a spot in the conference online.
Even if you feel confident in your skills as a principal, attending one of these conferences can help you feel even better about your skills. These conferences give you the chance to meet published authors, attend lectures and take parts in activities designed just for principals. The top conferences for school principals take place every year across the country.
