The Master of Science in Nursing from Ohio State University is open to students who have a bachelor's degree, either in nursing or another field, so long as they are working as an RN. The goal of the program is to prepare graduates for advanced nursing practice in a variety of settings, using coursework, clinical experience, evidence-based practice. Depending on the selected course of study and concentration area, students may be required to visit campus up to three times during the program. These visits are only a few days and are providing students the opportunity for cohort community-building and completion of clinical experiences. These specialized programs include Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Leader, and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

Duke University's Master of Science in Nursing offers eight advanced practice majors and three non-clinical majors, all equipping students with a further understanding of the breadth of nursing in preparation for career growth. The clinical majors include Neonatal, Family, Adult-Gerontology in acute and primary, Pediatric in acute and primary, Psychiatric, and Women's Health. The non-clinical majors are in Health Informatics, Nursing Education, and Nursing and Health Care Leadership. Each major is made up of 11 credits of clinical core courses, culminating in a final synthesis experience where students complete a final clinical residency. Specialty certificates are offered in fields to accompany the concentration, including Cardiology, HIV, Orthopedics, and Oncology.
