1. Accounting Clerk
Business majors have to complete several courses in basic and advance accounting. One of the most popular business administration jobs for graduates who are just starting out is in the accounting department where you will be part of the team that documents, maintains and manages the financial records of the organization. You may be assigned a specific task such as accounts receivables or payment processing for instance. This is a good place to start if you envision yourself as a CPA or financial officer in the future.
2. Payroll Processor
Regardless of the size of the company, the services of a payroll specialist will always be needed. You will be responsible for verifying hours worked for non-exempt employees, and creating the payroll based on these records. You may also be trained to handle payroll disbursement, which is mostly electronic these days. As a payroll assistant, you can either work for a company directly or a third party business that specializes in outsourced services for other companies.
3. Human Resources Assistant
Another jump-off point for a high-flying business administration job is in the human resources department. You will be asked to assist with new employee intake and on-boarding. You will be trained to process confidential and critical documents that must be verified to confirm the employability of job applicants. You may also be asked to assist with preparing and disseminating information about corporate events or any changes compensation and employment guidelines.
4. Training Assistant
As a business major, you would have taken courses in business psychology, organizational development and marketing. While you may not be tasked with developing training programs, you may be asked to assist with preparations for a corporate presentation by senior trainers. You may be tasked with mass producing training materials, preparing visuals for PowerPoint or similar presentations and taking charge of preparing the meeting spaces.
5. Purchasing Assistant
Businesses need supplies, equipment and inventory. As an assistant in the company’s purchasing department, you will be asked to keep track of documentation and maintain records according to the company’s pre-set guidelines. Most companies codify their vendor lists for more efficient tracking, and it will be your job to make sure that the data for each vendor is accurate and up-to-date. You may also be asked to research new suppliers to include in the vendor pool, reporting on their financial strength, stability and compatibility with your company’s operations. Your accounting, record keeping and negotiating skills will serve you well as a purchasing assistant.
