Whether you have a disability that keeps you from working outside the home, you want to stay home with your kids or you just don’t want to work outside, you can search for online communications jobs that let you work from home. A communications degree teaches you how to speak with others in different ways and how to use different methods based on those around you. Those strong skills will help in many work at home jobs.
Customer Service Rep
Depending on the type of communications degree you have, you might consider working as a customer service representative. Also called a CR rep, these men and women work from home and handle calls from customers for a specific company. Some companies hire reps to help callers make reservations, but others hire people to process orders and handle customer complaints. You’ll log into a system before each shift that tracks the hours you work and sends calls through to you.
Thanks to sites like WordPress and Blogger, you can blog on any topic that you like without paying any money upfront. These sites offer plug-ins that you can use to keep track of page views, link to products for sale online and show your social networking sites. Working as a blogger lets you set your own hours and work as little or as much as you would like. While you may not make much or any money as a new blogger, once you build up a following, you can make more money than you would outside of your home.
Working as a tutor is another way in which you can use your communications degree and help others at the same time. You usually need to pick an area that you want to focus on like math, English or social studies. Many tutoring websites only require that you have some type of camera that lets you chat with others online. You’ll have the chance to write your own bio and design a profile that shows the experience you have and explains why students should hire you. Some of these sites even let you set your own price for each session you run.
The idea that teachers sit behind a desk in a classroom that directly overlooks their students is almost an antiquated one. Many schools and school districts now offer online classes for students who cannot attend traditional classes for any reason. As an online teacher, you are responsible for creating lesson plans, designing assignments for students, handing out assignments, grading that work and ensuring that students keep up with their peers. Depending on your state, you may need a teaching license and/or a four-year degree before you can become an online teacher.

As a social media PR specialist, you’ll handle the public image of a client on social networking sites.
There are a variety of reasons why you might want to work from the comfort of your own home, and if you have a communications degree, you can choose from a number of career paths. Online communications jobs include PR specialists, tutors and bloggers.
