Southern New Hampshire University is a private educational institution. While they only have 3,000 on-campus students, their online program boasts over 60,000 students. They were founded in 1932, but the distance education revolution has empowered them to reinvent higher education alternatives. They are now one of the fastest growing universities in the country. Southern New Hampshire University offers undergraduate and graduate programs through their five colleges and schools. Southern New Hampshire University Accreditation Details

Southern New Hampshire University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. They are also accredited through other certifying bodies like the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), which certifies undergraduate and graduate business programs. The Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) accredits the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Administration and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredits the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing programs.

Southern New Hampshire University Application Requirements

Students must submit their official high school transcripts or GED scores. SAT or ACT scores are optional. Applicants should submit at least one letter of recommendation from a school teacher or counselor. Certain departments have additional requirements, such as Creative Writing degree applicants must submit a 10-page writing sample and Music Education applicants must complete an audition. University Honors Program applicants must submit an additional essay and Honors application. Almost all admitted candidates will have completed four years of English, three years of math, two years of science and two years of social science.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Each class at Southern New Hampshire University will cost $960 for degree and certificate programs, which breaks down to $320 per credit. Graduate applicants will pay $1,881 per class, which equates to $627 per credit. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility for financial aid programs. Over 90 percent of students receive some type of financial aid. Students with a GPA of 2.5 and higher may receive up to $18,000 in grants and scholarships. The graduate tuition rates are some of the lowest in the country. Active-duty service members and their spouses qualify for a 25 percent tuition discount. Federal Pell Grant awards cap at $5,775 per year for students with severe financial need. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) awards range from $100 to $1,000 per year.

Southern New Hampshire University's need based grants are available for full-time undergraduate students. The award amounts range from $500 to $12,000 every year. Out-of-state applicants may qualify for state grants from surrounding states. The Southern New Hampshire University Sibling Grant is available for two undergraduate day students from the same family. Each student receives $1,250 per year. The Quill/Penmen Scholarship is reserved for undergraduate students based on academic performance. These scholarships are renewable each year if the student maintains an appropriate GPA. The Presidential Scholarship is available to incoming full-time undergraduate students with a 3.5 GPA. There are an unlimited number of $2,000 Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarships for commuters and residents who have a 3.5 GPA and an associate's degree.

Nursing Degrees

Southern New Hampshire University offers many innovative online and on-campus degrees in communication, creative writing, data analytics, environmental science, fashion merchandising, geosciences, graphic design and health science. Their traditional business degree programs in Accounting, Business Administration, Business Finance, Computer Information Technology, Health Care Administration, Human Resource Management, Nonprofit Management, Organizational Leadership and Small Business Management. There are also unique business specializations available. Two unique degree programs include Business Studies in Operations and Project Management and Business Studies in Industrial Organizational Psychology (BS).

The BS Business Studies in Operations and Project Management combines core business training with a special classes in quality control, statistical analyses, demand forecasting, inventory control, production planning and supply chain management. Southern New Hampshire University's project management degree is designed for students who want to oversee the production of goods and services and for students who want to apply quantitative methods to solve problems. This program explores concepts, strategies and technologies used to effectively manage people, projects and operations. Students learn about real-world tools, skills and resources to solve business challenges. Basic project management classes study the project life cycle, so they learn about the organizing, planning, monitoring and controlling phases. Classes on Six Sigma quality management cover the fundamental techniques used to improve service and manufacturing processes. Students learn about statistical process control, statistical experiment design, process mapping analysis and cause-and-effect diagrams.

The BS Business Studies in Industrial-Organizational Psychology is one of the few programs that offers a business perspective. This specialized business degree departs from the average industrial-organizational psychology degree by focusing on how to apply psychological principles to improve individual performance within organizations. This industrial-organizational psychology degree merges psychology and business courses together to provide students with balanced perspectives. Students will learn how to apply psychological principles to improve employee performance, recruitment, selection, training and development. This degree includes classes in social psychology, which is the comprehensive study of how people's thoughts and actions are affected by other people. Social psychology topics include prejudice, altruism, conformity, attraction and decision making. Classes on industrial/organizational psychology teach students how to improve workplace, production and interpersonal effectiveness through employee assessments and organizational interventions. Classes in cognitive psychology focus on mental processes like memory, thinking and language.

Southern New Hampshire University offers graduate level degree programs in diverse majors like forensic accounting, clinical nurse leadership, public safety administration, educational technology integration and creative writing. The latter degree allows students to choose from a fiction, non-fiction, poetry and screenwriting track. Anyone who wants to become a Hollywood screenwriter can pursue the latter degree, which is rarely offered by colleges.
