If you are looking for a top-rated degree program in a faith-based school, Regis University may be the institution for you. The school has several campuses located in the metropolitan Denver area. It is within an hour's drive of ski resorts and hiking trails in the Rocky Mountains and is in the center of Denver's rich cultural, sports, entertainment and shopping venues. Regis University is a private school affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. It began in 1887 as Sacred Heart College and became Regis University in 1991. The US News and World Report ranks Regis as # 23 of Regional Universities-West. With a small student body and a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1, the school offers an opportunity for interaction with professors and peers. Regis is divided into five colleges. It is also the home of the Institute on the Common Good which provides a place for community debate and discussion, and the Center for Service Learning that allows students to learn by performing voluntary services to the community.

Regis University Application Requirements

If you are applying as a first-time freshman you will need to complete the application form either online or in hard copy and pay a $50 non-refundable application fee. You will need to complete the Writing Skills Placement Essay and document that you have either three years of full- time employment after high school or the equivalent of three years in college coursework and full-time employment. You must also submit your high school transcript if you have no college experience. Applying as a transfer student, you will submit your college transcript and your scores on national standardized tests like the CLEP, DANTE or other, if you were required to take it. You should submit records of any corporate training, military records and documentation of military training or professional licenses or certificates you hold. Graduate students must submit the application and $65 application fee along with a resume. You will need to write a personal statement of your career goals and how you expect Regis University to help you achieve them. Graduate students should also present two letters of recommendation from professors or supervisors and their GRE or other test scores. All graduate students will schedule a personal interview as part of the application process.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition at Regis is $34,110 a year. In addition, there is an activity fee of $350 and a health insurance premium of $3,117. If you already have health insurance, you can waive this charge. The average room rate for a year is $5,600 and the meal plan is approximately $4,820, depending upon which plan you choose. Books and supplies are estimated at $1,800. Graduate tuition is calculated by the semester hour and by the program studied. For instance, a Master of Science in Biomedical Science is $810 per credit hour and a Master of Fine Arts costs $690 per credit hour. A semester of graduate nursing courses will cost $17,775 and tuition for a Doctor of Pharmacology degree is $1,095 per semester hour. Tuition at any university and especially at private schools is expensive. Most students receive some sort of financial aid. To apply for help, you must first complete a FAFSA form. This government program assists students by awarding grants, loans or work-study opportunities if they qualify for them. Your qualification will depend upon the financial information you submit on your application. Grants do not have to be repaid. You must repay loans, but the federal loans offered have lower interest rates than you would receive at private lending institutions and you can defer repayment until after you graduate. There is a Preferred Tuition in place at Regis that allows veterans and military personnel along with members of certain organizations with which Regis is affiliated and some other individuals to receive a discounted tuition rate. Counseling Degrees at Regis University

Regis University offers a unique focus in its counseling programs because they are taught in a faith-based context, but also with a highly-recognized professional focus. That means if you have a deep faith but want to have a career founded in highly-accepted methodologies and techniques, the programs will meet your needs. The Master of Arts in Counseling is a 60-credit program that meets the academic criteria for licensing by the Colorado Licensed Professional Counselors. Students take one semester on hands-on practicum in the laboratory followed by two semesters of internship. Most students take three years to complete the program. The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology leads to licensing as a Mental Health Counselor. The program has 48 hours in counseling core like Counseling Theory; Human Growth and Development; Psychological Pathology and others. There are two tracks, one of which leads to a career as a practitioner and the other to a career in teaching or research, or preparation for a doctoral degree. The Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy fulfills the academic requisites for the LMFT license. The 60 credit program includes 54 core credits and the rest in electives. The focus of the degree is teaching the family as a system and counseling as an opportunity to bring all people involved together to begin the healing process.
