Don't let the Fall 2015 acceptance rate of 88 percent fool you because Montana Tech of the University of Montana is classified as "more selective." First-year applicants need to finish a high school diploma after a college-prep curriculum with four years of English, math, and science. Ranking in the top 50 percent of one's graduating class is expected. Freshmen need a minimum 2.5 GPA overall, but the average is currently 3.55. New undergrads must also score at least 22 on the ACT or 1120 on the SAT. Writing proficiency is also necessary with an ACT Writing score of 07 or higher.
Undergrads wishing to become Montana Tech Orediggers need to have completed 15+ credits, including Intermediate Algebra, at regionally accredited colleges. Incoming transfers can cover 50 percent of their degree's requirements with grades above "C" and a cumulative GPA above 2.0. International students on I-20 visas have an extra step of scoring at least 6.0 on the IELTS or equivalent. The Graduate School requires finishing an accredited bachelor's degree with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 for full admission.
