Bryant & Stratton College was founded in 1854 in order to provide a practical education so that students could achieve career goals. When the college was founded, many industries required apprenticeships that were difficult to find. Dr. John Collins Bryant and his brother, Henry Beadman Bryant partnered with their brother-in-law, Henry Dwight Stratton to found Bryant & Stratton National Business College in Buffalo, New York.

From the beginning, the college was an advocate for women's rights, creating a women's department so that women could also achieve higher education goals. In 1858, the college began offering what it called the only "completely practical bookkeeping course in the world," teaching business skills in classrooms as well as mock stores, banks and insurance companies for hands-on training.

After the Civil War, many soldiers used their mustering out money to enter new careers and Bryant & Stratton encouraged them to enroll, using advertising that stated "business is the battle of peace." In 1889, the college became the first to offer a correspondence education, allowing students to learn at home. In 1940, the college established free job placement services to help graduates find employment. In 1997, Bryant & Stratton launched their online program through the Southtowns Campus. They began offering bachelor's degrees in 2000.

Bryant & Stratton is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Not only does regional accreditation allow the college to receive and administer financial aid to students, it also indicates that the college meets or exceeds criteria set forth by the organization that indicate excellence in education. Bryant & Stratton Application Requirements

Students must complete an application either in person on campus or online. There is no fee to apply to the college. Students must make an appointment with a personal admission representative who will discuss online courses and how the program operates. Students must then submit to an interview which will cover academic history and educational goals. Students must provide official high school transcripts or GED certificate. Vaccination records may also be required.

Transfer students must submit an official transcript from all colleges or universities attended and may not have earned more than 75 percent of credits required for a degree program. Students in Virginia must not have earned more than 70 percent of degree credits. Evaluation of transfer credits is free and students may also earn college credit by scoring 70 percent or better on a proficiency examination.

Bryant & Stratton Tuition and Financial Aid

Each degree program has a tuition and fee schedule that varies. The average cost to complete a four-year degree program is $69,960 while the average two-year degree costs $34,380. Financial aid is available in the form of grants, scholarships, federal and state assistance and loans. The college also accepts tuition reimbursement and military benefits for tuition. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for any aid at Bryant & Stratton.
