1. Educators For Maine Program

The Educators For Maine Program that is offered by the state of Maine is a merit-based and competitive loan forgiveness program for students majoring in education and child development. If you are graduating from high school, you are an undergraduate student, or you are enrolling in a graduate degree program and you do not currently hold your state certification, you may qualify for this program. If you are selected by the committee based on your academic performance, awards, activities, and essay, you can apply for a $3000 loan, up to $12,000 total. Once you earn your certification, you must perform eligible work teaching or or providing child care at an eligible school for your loan to be forgiven. Graduates who do not meet this criteria must repay their loans.

2. Guy P. Gannett Scholarship Fund

Deadline: May 1

The Guy P. Gannett Scholarship Fund was established to provide high school graduates in the state of Maine who are committed to studying journalism with financial assistance. To qualify for the scholarship, you must have attended a Maine high school in the last year of your education and you must be planning on attending an accredited school anywhere in the United States. When you submit your application for consideration, the committee will select students based on excellent academic performance, a commitment to journalism, and evidence of financial need.

3. Hickey Scholarship

Deadline: Open

The Hickey Scholarship is provided by the Maine Community Foundation to students attending a post-secondary school majority in Baptist Studies or in a church-related position. Recipients of the scholarship will receive an annual non-renewable award, which varies based on financial need. To be considered, you must be a member of the American Baptist Churches of Maine or the Millinocket Baptist Church.

4. Kevin McCabe Memorial Scholarship Fund

Deadline: May 3

The Kevin McCabe Memorial Scholarship is designed to be used for Young Artists Workshops, and is awarded to student photographers from Central New State region If you are a film or digital photographer from this region, you may receive full tuition assistance, lodging and meals assistance, and assistance for all lab fees. 5. Maine Metal Products Association Scholarship Program

Deadline: April 19

The Maine Metal Products Association Scholarship is designed to provide community service by helping qualified applicants who plan to pursue a career in metal working with financial assistance. Students who are majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Welding, Sheet Metal Fabrication, Machine Tool, or CADCAM may be selected for the opportunity. The award can be used to pay for tuition and books only. To qualify, you must be a resident of Maine, maintain a full-time enrollment status, and maintain a C average or better. Award amounts vary from applicant to applicant.

6. Maine Society of Professional Engineers Scholarships

The Maine Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship is awarded to two graduating high school seniors in the state of Maine who are planning on earning a degree in engineering. If your goal to study engineering and you will be entering the field upon graduation of college, this could be a great scholarship opportunity for you. 7. Maine State Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

Deadline: April 19

The Maine State Chamber of Commerce Scholarship is administered by the MES and is designed to recognize two high school seniors in the state of Maine who plan on attending college. You can be attending any college in the US, but priority is given to students who will remain in Maine. One scholarship will be given to a student pursuing an Associates degree and other will be awarded to a student earning a Bachelor's degree. You must be considered an independent student to receive on of the $1500 awards.

8. MASSGrant Program

Deadline: May 1

The MASSGrant is funded by the Massachusetts Legislature and provides needs-based assistance to students who reside in the state and who are enrolled in an approved program of higher education. To be eligible for this scholarship award, you must have a Financial Aide application on file, be a resident of Massachusetts, be enrolled in school full-time, and be able to demonstrate financial need. Your Expected Family Contribution cannot exceed $5081 to qualify. Depending on your EFC, you can receive eligibility for between 2 and 10 semesters.

9. Maureen D. Keller Undergraduate Scholarship

Deadline: May 23

The Maureen D. Keller Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded by the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences to students in Maine who are pursuing a B.S degree in Biological or Earth Sciences. Students selected for the scholarship will receive a $1000 award as long as they meet all of the selection criteria. Be sure that you are a high school senior or college freshman at the time of application and that you have a minimum GPA of 3.0 before applying. You may not apply if you are already a Keller Scholar.

10. NEDMA (NE Direct Mktg Assoc) Foundation

If you are interested in a career in the field of Direct Marketing, the NEDMA Foundation offers a 4 part scholarship that can help cover the cost of tuition and other educational expenses up to $3000. In addition to the monetary award, recipients will also get the opportunity to attend a Nationally Sponsored Seminar and will also complete a Paid Internship in New England. You must have completed your sophomore or junior year to be considered for selection by the committee.

11. Nell Goff Memorial Scholarship

The Nell Goof Memoral Scholarship is awarded to students who receive Federal Financial Aide and who are majoring in an agricultural related major. Some of the eligible majors include: horticulture, landscape design, conservation, botany, forestry, city planning, and environmental control. To be considered by the council, you must be a resident of Maine and a sophomore in college. You can receive priority consideration if you are a resident of St. Croix. All recipients will receive $1000 that an be applied to cover education-related expenses.

12. NiSource Charitable Foundation Scholarship

Deadline: October 14

The NiSource Charitable Foundation Scholarship is a renewable award that is available to students to who are residents of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. You must be an undergraduate student attending a UNCF member, demonstrate financial need, and also maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Those who are selected for the scholarship may be able to renew the award if they qualify.

13. Quality Child Care Education Scholarship

If your goal is to be a child care professional and you are pursuing a degree in Child Development or a related area, you may qualify for the Quality Child Care Education Scholarship. To qualify for this scholarship, you must be a resident of Maine and either be working as a child care professional or have an intent to work in the field following graduation. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate financial need by submitting their Federal Income Tax form. Those who are selected for the award will receive $2000 per year, and up to $500 per eligible course taken in child care.

14. Rachel Butterworth Dietz Scholarship

Deadline: September 30

If you are pursuing or intending to pursue a degree or enroll in a higher education program majoring in horiculture, the Rachel Butterworth Dietz Scholarship could be the right opportunity for you. The award is open to students who are already enrolled in an eligible program full time and also to graduating high school seniors who have been accepted into the program. Students must live in the New England region to receive the award of $5000 for the year but the award is not college specific.

15. Ross-Fahey Scholarships

The Ross-Fahey Scholarships are offered by the NACA New England Region to offer graduate students who are leaders financial assistance. To qualify for this scholarship, you must meet the criteria set by the selection committee. In addition to being a graduate student or employee at a NACA member school, you must be able to demonstrate leadership and show that you have been involved in community service. High school students are not eligible for this award, and two students receive the award annually.

16. Russ Casey Scholarship

The Russ Casey Scholarship is a culinary scholarship awarded to residents of Maine. If you are in the process of enrolling in a higher education program that is clearly associated with culinary arts, hotel management, or hospitality, you may be eligible for selection to receive one of 3 $1000 awards that are given on an annual basis. Students who are focused on pursuing a career in food service and who plan to attend a school in Maine will receive priority over other applicants. 17. Ruth Milan-Altrusa Scholarship Fund

The Ruth Milan-Altrusa Scholarship Fund awards a single scholarship in varying amounts each year to a student who is a resident of the Bangor area in Maine and who is enrolled in the Nursing Program at Eastern Maine Medical Center. 18. Saint Joseph Scholarship

If you are applying to be a full-time student in a degree program at the St. Joseph's College of Maine, you may qualify for a college specific scholarship and a tuition waiver. These scholarships can be renewed for up to 8 semesters as long as students maintain satisfactory academic progress in their degree program of choice. The awards can range between $1,000 and $20,000, depending on financial need and performance. You may also need to show that you are involved in the parish to be consider for some of the merit-based and competitive awards.

19. Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship Research Institute

Mitchell Scholarships were established in 1994 and is available to help young people in Maine who are pursuing a higher education. You can receive the award of up to $6000 if you are a graduating senior from any high school in the state and if you are pursuing a 2 to 4-year college degree. You can attend a college in Maine or outside of the state to be considered for a Mitchell Scholarship. Recipients of this annual award will be selected based on academic potential, financial need, and community service.

20. Shaw Worth Scholarship Award

If you are involved with the Humane Society of the United States and you are a resident of the New England region, you may want to see if you are eligible for the Shaw Worth Scholarship. Candidates must demonstrate a deep respect for animals and who are committed to the service of animals. You must be a New England senior who can show participation in animal protection to be selected as the one recipient of a $2500 award used to cover tuition fees.

21. St. Mary's Parish of Houlton Scholarship Fund

Deadline: April 15

Residents of Aroostook County who are members of St. Mary's Parish of Houlton may be eligible for this scholarship award if they are enrolled in their third or fourth year of a 4-year degree program. There is no specific degree program requirement and the amount of awards and the number of the awards given to applicants will vary from year to year. The scholarship fund is administered by the Maine Community Foundation, where the selection committee will review applications.

22. Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund is a renewable and available to permanent residents of New England states who have demonstrated a history of academic excellence and good citizenship. 23. Steven Cutter Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Student

The Steven Cutter Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Student is awarded to a student who is a resident of one of the nine towns in Maine and New Hampshire and who is also pursuing a degree in a health-related field. 24. Timothy Bigelow and Palmer W Bigelow Jr Scholarships

This opportunity is available to students residing in one of the six New England region states and who is enrolled in an accredited landscape or horiculture program in any state. The program can be either a 2-year or 4-year program but the student must be enrolled at a full-time status to be considered. Two year students must be seniors and 4-year students must be a junior to be considered. Preference is given to students with a financial need.

25. Tuition Waiver Program for Children & Spouses of Emergency Medical Services Personnel

The Tuition Waive Program is available for Maine residents who are children or even married to emergency medical services personnel who were killed in the line of duty.
