Liberal Arts colleges are a popular and wise choice for students who are either unsure or open-minded about their chosen career paths. Liberal arts degrees such as social sciences, history, humanities, and education, open doors to a broad range of successful careers. Liberal Arts colleges tend to be more intimate and offer great financial aid opportunities, such as these five liberal arts scholarships in the western region of the United States.
1.Whittier College in California
Established in 1887, Whittier College is one of California’s most popular liberal arts colleges. The Whittier College Scholarships are many, diverse, and simple to apply for. Their Endowment Scholarships are funded by donations and offered automatically to students whose admissions applications demonstrate merit and FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) applications demonstrate financial need, as according to each specific donor. Students with an aptitude for art, music, or theater (regardless of their chosen liberal arts major) are also invited to apply for Whittier’s talent scholarships.
2. Lewis and Clark University in Oregon
Lewis and Clark University in Oregon offers a tremendous amount of scholarships to liberal arts students. One of the most generous is the Leadership and Service Award. This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshman and transfer students who demonstrated leadership and a commitment to service in their high school, college, or community. This award can be extended each year if recipients demonstrate continued leadership and service throughout Lewis and Clark and the surrounding community.
3. The University of Puget Sound in Washington
One of the most selective liberal arts colleges in the west, The University of Puget Sound, has tuition prices that are among the highest. However, their scholarship opportunities are also among the best. For academic excellence, they offer the Lillis Foundation Scholarships, Matelich Scholarships, and National Merit Scholarships. For students transferring from community colleges in Washington, they offer the All-Washington Academic Team Scholarships. They also offer talent-based scholarships in the areas of art, forensics, music, and theater. Applicants will automatically be evaluated for eligibility to receive the Founders, Alumni, Faculty, Dean’s, President’s, Trustee Scholarships, which total between $13,000 and $24,000.
4. The College of Idaho
The University of Idaho is small and welcoming. It has a very high acceptance rate but still maintains a student body hovering around 1,000 students. It is an excellent atmosphere for students who desire an intimate learning environment. It also seeks to help students succeed through offering a diverse array of scholarships. The College of Idaho’s Institutional Scholarships include aid based on application qualifications, merit, talent, and need. They also offer experience grants for students who participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, such as study abroad and student research.
5. Colorado College
Colorado College is one of the highest ranked liberal arts schools in all of the United States. It is one of the few to employ the block plan, in which students take one course at a time for shorter periods of time. Due to its reputation and unique approach, it is highly selective. Fortunately, it also offers several scholarships of many different varieties. Students entering as freshmen are eligible for the Presidential, Trustee, and Leadership merit-based scholarships totaling $20,000, $28,000, and $40,000.
The western region of the U.S. is home to some of the country’s best liberal arts colleges. Most of them are selective and costly. Fortunately, these five liberal arts scholarships provide many students with the opportunity to attend such colleges.
