There is plenty to love about Washington, DC. After all, it’s our nation’s capital and home to some of the country’s most beloved monuments. But it is also lacking in some areas, including affordable real estate and yes, online colleges. However, there is a select handful of universities in the District that have beaten the odds by offering distance education at an affordable price. Of these few online-accessible schools, we’re bringing you the 2 “best value.” Note that for rankings with 3 schools or fewer, we made the decision not to include individual scores due to a lack of data. However, the order of the ranking still stands as an indication of relative value.

2. Gallaudet University
Hands down, Gallaudet University stands as one of the most unique online colleges in Washington, DC. In fact, it is one of the most unique schools in the country, period! That’s because Gallaudet is an institution dedicated entirely to educating the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Admittedly, the university barely meets our requirements for this ranking, as a mere 15% of undergraduates take distance courses. Even so, Gallaudet deserves accolades for its commitment to meeting the needs of remote learners. Online students at Gallaudet can choose between degree completion programs in Psychology and Deaf Studies, and enrollment is open to hearing applicants.

1. University of the Potomac
Washington DC has earned a reputation as one of the most expensive places in the country to live. As such, the University of the Potomac’s ability to keep costs low is all the more impressive. Few residents would likely believe that such an affordable online school in Washington, DC even exists! Fortunately, this university does exist, and it offers convenient bachelor’s degrees that feature the same “extensive education” that one would expect from a traditional, campus-based experience. For one thing, industry professionals and experienced professors lead all online courses. In addition, distance learners can choose from a similar degree selection as their campus-based counterparts, from Accounting to Cybersecurity to Hospitality and Tourism.
